This Is Why I Am Not A Christian

(I am not aiming this at any particular religion or person. Please do not take offense. These are just my thoughts. I will give you a disclaimer, but I am not apologetic.)

Hmm…I guess as an American it can be considered Un-American to say that I am not a Christian. This is a new thought process for me. I grew up in a Baptist family that attends church regularly. I understand the teachings of The Bible. Actually, I take that back. I DO NOT understand the teachings of The Bible. I do not understand how people can read that stuff and believe all of it.

Don’t get me wrong. I respect religions. Everyone has the right to believe what they see fit. I just can’t sit in a church and read things like, “Let women keep silence in the churches, for it is not permitted them to speak.” 1 Cor. 14:34

Now, I am not sure if that is an exact quote or not because I am taking it from another book (I do no own a Bible, stone me now). Either way I think it’s garbage. I see many religions as ways for men to marginalize women, to keep them in their places. I do not see freedom in religion. I do not see…hope. Why would God want women to sit down and shut up? It doesn’t make sense. I do not believe he made us to be inferior to men.

I am just so tired of being seen as the weaker sex. Sure, times are a’changin’. I know there are women preachers now. But how can that be? Their Bible says that they should be silent. How can you preach about something that has no place for you?

This may anger some of you, and I understand. I am not here to argue. It just seems odd that religious beliefs are the one thing people fight so hard for, but many of those beliefs have women as lower class, second rate citizens. For so long Christianity prohibited education for women. Sure, we’ve come a long way. I just don’t understand how we can overlook the fact that even though people are acting differently, they still hold that same book and say that it is “The Word of God.”

You all are here, posting on your blogs, saying what you have to say…but your religion REALLY thinks you should be quiet. Hypocrisy is hard to avoid when you claim to be part of a religion that does not see you as fit to teach.

JCPenney Does Not Do “Black Hair”?

Brenda McElmore went to JCPenney to have her hair dyed and she was told “We don’t do African American hair.”

?????

First of all, I have been to JCPenney to have my hair cut one or twice. There were black women working there and they were doing “African American hair.” Brenda McElmore have filed a lawsuit again JCPenney because of this nonsense. Good for her. And here is what JCPenney had to say about it:

“Let me apologize again for the customer service experience you had in our store. As we discussed, our salon receptionist felt that we did not have the technical proficiency… to perform the service you required. She may not however have expressed this to you in a way that was not offensive. For this I again apologize. Because customer service is … so important to our company, we would rather not attempt the service if we cannot perform it as required.”

I do not know much about “doing hair,” but I would think that doing different types of hair is part of your training. Please correct me if I am wrong about this. Plus, she only wanted to hair her hair DYED, it’s not like she was asking them to put a relaxer in it or something.

To me, this is ridiculous. First of all, the receptionist has a great deal of explaining to do. Second, JCPenney needs to have well trained people working for them and stop making excuses for this RACISM. No matter how the receptionist EXPRESSED this, it is undeniably WRONG.

There is nothing exotic about “black hair.” It is DIFFERENT from the hair of white people, but a hair salon should have the capabilities to do all different kinds of hair. If they can not cater to all potential customers then they should not be in business. The person in charge of hiring in that particular department store needs to be retrained as well. It’s not like black people are RARE.

We can only hope that Brenda wins this case. There is no reason this should have happened. I bet they wouldn’t have sent Michelle Obama or Oprah Winfrey away.
